Astrome Technologies
Bengaluru maker of GigaMesh E-band backhaul radios, supplying the Indian Army; it raised $10 million in January 2025 and won an IN-SPACe satellite-bus contract in February 2026.
Astrome Technologies is a Bengaluru company that builds millimetre-wave radios for mobile backhaul and, more recently, communications payloads for satellites. It was founded in 2015 and incubated at the Indian Institute of Science by Neha Satak, its chief executive, who holds a doctorate from Texas A&M University and was a postdoctoral researcher with the US Air Force Research Laboratory, and Prasad HL Bhat, its chairman and chief technology officer. Its lead product, GigaMesh, is an E-band radio with an electronically steered phased-array antenna that the company calls the world's first auto-aligned multi-beam E-band radio, and that Forbes India in 2021 described as India's first multi-beam E-band technology. The published capability figures have moved with the product: SiliconIndia reported in March 2021 that a single unit could carry up to 40 links of 2 Gbps or more over as much as 10 km, while the company's current product page advertises long-range connectivity of up to 20 km.
Defence has been the first substantial market. In June 2023 the Indian Army signed a contract to procure an indigenously developed tactical LAN radio from Astrome Tech Pvt Ltd under the Innovations for Defence Excellence scheme — a high-bandwidth backhaul set reported to run 48 hours on a single battery set and to use embedded frequency hopping. The company's own record adds two iDEX challenge wins, in 2019 and 2020, and an Aero India 2025 award for developing indigenous solutions for the Indian Army. On the supply side, the chipmaker SatixFy agreed in February 2023 to supply its PRIME 1 digital beamformer, a part first developed for satellite antennas with UK Space Agency backing through the European Space Agency, for Astrome's point-to-multipoint E-band radio.
The company is still small and loss-making. Entrackr reported revenue of Rs 8.29 crore for the year to March 2024, against Rs 2.71 crore the year before, with losses narrowing to Rs 1.73 crore from Rs 4.93 crore. Astrome raised a $3.4 million bridge round in September 2021 from IAN Fund, Urania Ventures, Cognizant co-founder Lakshmi Narayanan, Impact Collective, ARTPARK and a US angel consortium, and $10 million in January 2025 led by Appollo Fund with follow-on investment from IAN Group, which Entrackr put at $13.4 million raised in total.
The space side of the business has moved far more slowly than first advertised. In August 2019 Via Satellite reported that Astrome's French subsidiary had opened an initial coin offering for a SpaceWave token that pre-sold data services on SpaceNet, then described as a 198-satellite constellation carrying 24 terabits per second. SpaceNet today is not a constellation: the company sells it as a software-defined E-band satellite payload platform for other operators' micro and small satellites, and when the $10 million round was announced in January 2025, chief executive Neha Satak framed satcom as a market the company was only then entering. Its firmest space commitment came on 11 February 2026, when IN-SPACe signed Astrome, Dhruva Space and Azista Industries to develop indigenous small satellite bus platforms under its Satellite Bus as a Service scheme, each on a Rs 5 crore grant paid against milestones; IN-SPACe had announced the scheme in April 2025 and received 15 proposals by that July.
