Centum Electronics

Centum Electronics builds high-reliability electronics for satellites, launch vehicles, radars and missiles from Bengaluru, where its registered office sits at No. 44, KHB Industrial Area, Yelahanka New Town. The corporate identity number on its stock-exchange filings, L85110KA1993PLC013869, places incorporation in Karnataka in 1993; Wikipedia dates the founding to 8 January 1993 under the name Solectron Centum Electronics, by Apparao Venkata Mallavarapu, with listing on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange in 1994 and the change to the present name in January 2013. The company's own investor-relations page repeats that sequence — established 1993, public issue 1994 — while its group-profile page says the company was founded in 1994. The group now describes three units: Centum Strategic Electronics for defence and space, Centum Electronic Manufacturing Solutions for contract manufacturing, and an engineering-services arm.

Its space work is among the older private records in India. The company says its products have been onboard satellites since 2002, and lists modules for control, sensor, telemetry, remote-control, data-handling and power subsystems flying on remote-sensing, geostationary, navigational, meteorological and scientific satellites. Wikipedia calls it one of the largest contractors to the Indian Space Research Organisation, supplying more than 50 varieties of components for satellites and launch vehicles, and records a dedicated space facility opened at Yelahanka, Bengaluru, in September 2019 to support ISRO missions, together with a Defence Technology Absorption Award from DRDO in January 2021 for work on EMISAT. On the FY26 earnings call joint managing director Nikhil Mallavarapu counted space-based electronic warfare payloads and hyperspectral imaging payloads among the intellectual property the company has created, and put a second complete radar system order, for satellite and space debris tracking, at "about INR 30-odd crores" for a single long-range system. In May 2025 NewsBytes named Centum, with Ananth Technologies and Alpha Design Technologies, as one of three private firms asked to build 31 of the 52 satellites of the Space Based Surveillance-3 programme.

Centum reported FY26 as a year of growth on its Indian platform. On the FY26 earnings call the company put standalone revenue at ₹973 crore, about 25% higher year on year, with EBITDA of ₹121 crore and profit before exceptional items and tax of ₹100 crore; its quarterly filing puts consolidated revenue from continuing operations at ₹953 crore and continuing-operations profit after tax at ₹1,007.11 million. The company said the standalone order book closed the year near ₹1,645 crore, roughly 23% above the year before, and that the build-to-specification business grew about 37% on space-based payload programmes, radar subsystems and subsystems for land and missile programmes. Among the year's wins was an AESA radar programme from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the UHM platform, which Mallavarapu said carries an opportunity size exceeding INR 570 crores over the life cycle of the project.

The overseas businesses failed in the same year. Centum Electronics UK held Centum T&S Group Société Anonyme, whose underlying overseas subsidiaries had, the company told the exchanges, "incurred losses leading to erosion of net worth". The board resolved on 19 December 2025 to discontinue the Canadian step-down subsidiaries and provided ₹289.38 million against their carrying value; in the quarter to 31 March 2026 the group filed for redressement judiciaire in France and provided ₹376.23 million of consolidation goodwill, ₹178.33 million of intangible assets and ₹100.78 million of inventory. A one-time exceptional charge of ₹203 crore for provisions and impairments in the overseas subsidiaries left the consolidated result for FY26 a loss of ₹518.06 million, with discontinued operations losing ₹1,525.17 million. The court of Lyon transferred substantially all of the French business and its employees to successful bidders by a judgment dated 4 June 2026, and on 2 July 2026 converted the proceedings into liquidation judiciaire and appointed a judicial liquidator; deconsolidation booked an ₹812.33 million gain that carried the June 2026 quarter to a profit of ₹1,055.00 million.
