InspeCity raises ₹100 crore for planned in-orbit servicing demonstrations
The Mumbai-area company says the pre-Series A round will support a staged set of inspection, rendezvous and docking demonstrations. The financing is reported; no reviewed source says those missions have flown.

InspeCity has raised ₹100 crore, about $10.5 million, in a pre-Series A round, according to Moneycontrol and a separate account in The Times of India. The Mumbai-area space-technology company says it will use the capital to move its satellite-inspection and servicing systems from ground development toward a planned series of in-orbit demonstrations.
The distinction between the money and the missions is central. The financing was reported on August 27, but the demonstrations remain future work: Moneycontrol says the company plans four missions or launches over the next 12 to 18 months, while The Times of India describes the target as flight qualification and a move toward commercial activity. Neither report identifies launch dates, launch providers, spacecraft identifiers or a completed in-orbit servicing result.
Speciale Invest, which says it is co-leading the round, has also published a post about its follow-on investment. That is useful confirmation of the investor's participation, but it is an interested party's account rather than independent confirmation of the technology schedule. Its post says the next mission is intended as an in-orbit validation of sensing and propulsion, with robotics to follow.
A planned progression from inspection to docking
Moneycontrol reported that InspeCity plans to begin with two missions for its platform called RIG, followed by work on VEDA, short for Vehicle for Life Extension and De-orbiting Activities. The publication said founder and chief executive Arindrajit Chowdhury described the first RIG flights as demonstrations of rendezvous and proximity operations: the task of bringing one spacecraft near another while controlling their relative position and motion.
The reported sequence becomes more demanding after that. Moneycontrol said a VEDA mission would aim to bring two spacecraft together before a later mission attempts docking. The company distinguishes docking from a robotic arm's capture or manipulation of another spacecraft, which it calls berthing. Those are plans described by the company through the report, not outcomes that can yet be presented as an operational service.
InspeCity's own technology page describes an integrated set of propulsion, sensing, robotics and servicing hardware. It names CHAKSU as a tracking and navigation sensor unit, RAMA as a robotic arm, RIG as a guidance-and-attachment element and VEDA as the vehicle carrying the systems. The page is a product description, so it documents the company's stated architecture rather than independent proof that those elements have operated together in orbit.
What the public record confirms
The present report follows earlier financing. InspeCity announced a $5.6 million seed round in May 2025 and said then that it intended to space-qualify its technologies within 12 months. The company's site also places commercialisation of GITA, its propulsion system, and VEDA in a 2026-to-2028 roadmap phase. Those are company statements about development and timing; they do not provide a public flight record for the planned 2026-to-2028 demonstrations.
The ₹100-crore round is backed by more than a single announcement. Moneycontrol named Speciale Invest and investor Ashish Kacholia as the round's leads, with Antler Elevate, Antler India, Manish Gandhi and Shastra VC among the participants. The Times of India likewise reported a ₹100-crore pre-Series A, led by Speciale Invest and Kacholia with Antler and others participating. Speciale's account says it first backed InspeCity in 2023 and again in 2025.
Moneycontrol reported that InspeCity has about 70 employees and plans to more than double its team while expanding manufacturing, engineering and mission capabilities. It also reported that the company has three projects under the Ministry of Defence's Innovations for Defence Excellence programme and expects government programmes to add capital. Those plans may affect how quickly the company can prepare hardware, but the publication did not disclose a flight manifest or a confirmed customer mission.
The India connection is direct rather than incidental. Moneycontrol calls InspeCity a Mumbai-based startup; a 2025 InspeCity release described the business as an Indian space-technology company; and its 2025 joint announcement with Japan's Orbital Lasers listed its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The financing therefore concerns a domestic company building spacecraft-servicing hardware, even though the reported demonstrations and potential customers are not yet tied to named missions.
Funding is not an in-orbit result
A successful rendezvous, docking or satellite life-extension operation requires more than a stated technology stack. For this story, the verified development is the reported pre-Series A financing and the company's announced intention to conduct a staged set of demonstrations. What remains unverified in the reviewed public record is the date of the first flight, the identity of the launch mission, the target spacecraft and whether any flight will reach docking or service a satellite.
The next evidence that would change the account is concrete: a named launch, an on-orbit mission update and results for the initial sensing and propulsion demonstration. Until those appear, InspeCity's ₹100-crore round is best understood as funding for a proposed transition from ground development to space demonstrations, not confirmation that its satellite-servicing technology is already operating in orbit.
