KaleidEO
Bengaluru subsidiary of SatSure that designs optical and multispectral imaging payloads and a four-satellite constellation with onboard edge computing, targeted for 2026.
KaleidEO is the upstream arm of the Bengaluru analytics company SatSure — a wholly owned subsidiary set up in July 2022 to design optical and multispectral imaging payloads in-house instead of buying them. It sells what it calls Earth observation infrastructure-as-a-service, pairing its own payloads and satellites with the data infrastructure and analysis SatSure already runs for banks, insurers and infrastructure operators. The founding team came out of ISRO. SatSure's leadership page lists Arpan Sahoo as KaleidEO's chief executive, though KaleidEO's own September 2024 announcement and Business India a month later both called him chief operating officer; he is a former ISRO scientist who worked on the Chandrayaan and Aditya missions. Co-founder and chief technology officer Akash Yalagach spent seven years at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre on PSLV, GSLV and LVM3 assembly, integration and testing.
The planned constellation is four microsatellites of roughly 175 kg each in a very low Earth orbit of about 380 km. eoPortal records two payload lines: OPT-120, a wide-swath imager rated at 1.2 m panchromatic and 3.5 m multispectral ground sampling distance across a 65 km swath in six bands — red, green, blue, near-infrared, red-edge and panchromatic — and OPT-70, a 30 kg high-resolution unit rated at 0.7 m panchromatic and 2 m multispectral over a 16 km swath. eoPortal describes the configuration as giving near-daily off-nadir revisits and roughly ten-day nadir coverage, and Analytics India Magazine reported that the company is aiming to cover the globe with four satellites rather than the twelve to fourteen a commercial constellation typically needs.
The distinguishing claim is processing before downlink. In September 2023 KaleidEO ran deep-learning models — cloud detection, road and building extraction, water-body mapping, change detection — on imagery aboard an orbiting Satellogic satellite, using hardware and implementation support from the Australian startup Spiral Blue. SiliconIndia reported the pipeline as the first edge computing in space by an Indian company, running nearly 80 times faster and cutting data volume by about 99 percent. The satellites meant to carry that capability are late: SatSure told Via Satellite in August 2023 that four would fly by the fourth quarter of 2025, and in November 2024 co-founder Arpan Sahoo said the target had moved to 2026.
Hardware milestones and partnerships have arrived faster than launches. KaleidEO tested its payload from an aircraft over the United Kingdom and Austria in April 2024, resolving about 16 cm, and unveiled a high-resolution multispectral payload that September. Reuters named it in January 2025 among seven Indian startups selected for an India-United States space and defence programme run by Indusbridge Ventures and the American organisation FedTech. In June 2025 SatSure and Dhruva Space announced an Earth Observation-as-a-Service alliance that would pair KaleidEO's two qualified high-resolution payloads with Dhruva platforms from a 280,000 sq ft Hyderabad spacecraft facility, and in August 2025 the same wide-swath imager was named for the two satellites SatSure supplies to India's 12-satellite national Earth observation constellation.
