The Technology Development Board has signed an agreement to provide Chennai-based Agnikul Cosmos with ₹200 crore for reusable launch-vehicle development, the Ministry of Science & Technology announced on 25 September 2026. The support comes from the Research Development and Innovation Fund through optionally convertible debentures.
The ministry describes a proposed Agnibaan architecture intended to reuse the full launch system, including the upper stage. Its development goals cover propulsion, ascent, orbital insertion, descent and recovery. Engines capable of restarting and varying thrust are among the technologies planned for landing operations.
The stated objective is to advance from technology readiness level 4 and above toward level 8. The announcement does not give a development deadline, a disbursement schedule or the debentures’ conversion terms. It documents financing for development, not a completed reusable flight.
