The Indian Express attributes the revised target to chairman V Narayanan; UNI separately reports preparations. The date remains a launch target, with no commissioning outcome established.

ISRO is targeting October 30, 2026, to launch the NVS-03 navigation satellite aboard a GSLV Mk II rocket from Sriharikota, according to the Indian Express. Its October 22 report attributed the launch-attempt date to ISRO chairman V Narayanan, giving the delayed mission a new target for replenishing India’s NavIC navigation constellation.
The newspaper reported that an earlier tentative window had run from October 15 to 20. United News of India separately reported on October 24 that ISRO was preparing for an October 30 launch from Sriharikota. Both accounts describe an upcoming mission; neither establishes that NVS-03 has launched or entered navigation service.
NavIC, short for Navigation with Indian Constellation, is India’s regional satellite-navigation system. ISRO describes its primary service area as India and a region extending about 1,500 kilometres beyond the Indian landmass. It provides a standard service and a restricted service, using satellites to supply position and timing information.
NVS-03 belongs to the five-spacecraft second-generation series that ISRO identifies as NVS-01 through NVS-05. The agency says these satellites are intended to augment the constellation’s base layer and maintain continuity of services. The series adds an L1-band civilian navigation signal, alongside the existing L5 and S-band signals.
The previous spacecraft, NVS-02, illustrates why reaching a transfer orbit and joining the service are separate milestones. ISRO’s February 25, 2026, account says NVS-02 reached an elliptical transfer orbit after its January 29, 2025, launch, but its orbit-raising operations could not be carried out. A review committee found that the drive signal had not reached an engine’s oxidiser-line pyro valve.
For NVS-03, the October reports establish a planned launch date rather than a completed replenishment. They do not provide a commissioning date. October 30 is therefore the next reported launch target; confirmation that the satellite has reached its intended orbit and begun navigation service remains outstanding.
