Copernicus has set 31 December 2027 as the end date for the Sentinel-2A extension campaign. An operational notice published on 9 October 2026 by the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem says the satellite will continue under the tailored operating scenario introduced in 2025.
The campaign began in March 2025; this announcement extends its planned duration. According to the notice, Sentinel-2A adds measurements beyond those available from the nominal two-satellite Sentinel-2 constellation. The announcement does not quantify the additional observations or specify a revised interval between repeat images of a location.
The platform’s terms state that it supplies Earth-observation data to people and organisations worldwide and makes Copernicus Sentinel data available on a free, full and open basis. Users register to access the data. The newly stated campaign end date is 31 December 2027.
