Spire details unfunded options on NOAA weather-data order

Spire Global disclosed on 22 September 2026 that unfunded options could bring its latest U.S. weather-data task order to about $66 million if exercised in full. The company’s release separates those possible additional purchases from the $33.2 million base award by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

NOAA’s notice, published on 21 September, dates the award announcement to 18 September. It gives Spire’s exact base amount as $33,158,160 for 5,300 daily radio-occultation profiles, including 1,100 with enhanced time sampling. The agency mentions additional purchasing options without specifying their value; Spire’s subsequent disclosure supplies the potential ceiling.

Radio occultation measures the bending and slowing of navigation-satellite signals through the atmosphere. NOAA uses these observations to derive temperature, pressure and moisture information for forecasting. Spire’s data deliveries are scheduled from 1 December 2026 to 1 December 2028, according to the agency.

Spire identifies the broader procurement programme’s $8 billion shared ceiling separately from its own order. That programme ceiling is not an award to Spire, and the company’s approximately $66 million figure remains conditional on NOAA exercising the unfunded options.
