Japan's space agency opened a renewed G-Portal on 1 October 2026 for users of its Earth-observation satellite data. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) lists 4 November as the planned shutdown date for the previous system, giving users a period to move their accounts and download workflows.

The new website, file-download host and catalogue server have different addresses. JAXA says users must register again, while those running automated downloads need to update their scripts. The portal describes its data service as open to researchers, educators, government agencies and industry users worldwide.

The new secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) service no longer accepts password-based login. It requires public-key authentication, and JAXA says it may take up to an hour after account creation before SFTP access becomes available.

JAXA has also discontinued multi-file bulk downloads through the website. It provides sample scripts for searching the catalogue through its Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW) and retrieving files by SFTP instead.

The agency says some legacy data, including TRMM and Aqua/AMSR-E files in HDF4 format, will not be available on the new system; a fuller list is pending. JAXA plans to operate both systems during October. It has not yet fixed the time of the previous system's planned 4 November shutdown.
