Rocket Lab files Neutron launch update targeting 2027
The October 14 disclosure puts the inaugural flight in 2027 without specifying a month. The earlier fourth-quarter target concerned delivery to the launch pad.

Rocket Lab has recorded a revised Neutron launch schedule in an October 14 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, with the rocket’s first flight now expected in 2027. The accompanying company release gives the year explicitly; the filing describes the debut moving into next year. Both are management disclosures of an expected launch, rather than evidence of a completed flight.
In the filing, Rocket Lab links the revised timing to continued development and the incorporation of process improvements. It says manufacturing and testing work is progressing, but the filing does not identify a particular failed component, give a launch month or set out dated milestones for the remaining work.
The previous marker was different. In its August 10 quarterly release, Rocket Lab said first-stage tank production was aligned with a target to deliver Neutron to the pad in the fourth quarter of 2026. That was a hardware-delivery target, not a scheduled liftoff. The October disclosure now supplies an explicit year for the inaugural launch.
Neutron is also the launcher named in Rocket Lab’s earlier Flatellite award announcement for the U.S. Space Force. In that August 4 release, the company committed to developing, launching and operating multiple spacecraft for airborne-threat tracking. It did not provide a Flatellite mission date. The new Neutron disclosure does not set one either, so it does not establish a revised schedule for that customer’s satellites.
The schedule remains a company forecast. Rocket Lab’s October release classifies launch timing and Neutron development statements as forward-looking and warns that actual results may differ. The securities filing documents the disclosure; it does not independently verify readiness to fly. Rocket Lab says it will provide further updates as development continues, without setting a date in the filing.
