Second Vikram-1 first stage begins transfer to Sriharikota
The transfer starts a new campaign after July’s maiden orbital flight, but Skyroot has not announced a launch date or said that the next vehicle is integrated.

Skyroot Aerospace says the first stage of its second Vikram-1 rocket is on its way to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, a hardware transfer that begins the company’s next launch campaign. The Hyderabad-based company made the announcement on National Space Day, August 23, in a public LinkedIn post. It said the stage was already en route to the spaceport, but did not give a launch date, identify payload customers or state that the rest of the vehicle had reached the site.
The distinction matters. A stage moving to a launch range is a concrete campaign step, not confirmation that a rocket is assembled, ready for final checks or cleared to fly. India Today and Business Today separately reported the first-stage transfer on August 25 and August 24, respectively. Both accounts place the reported destination at Sriharikota and describe the hardware as part of a second Vikram-1, while neither supplies a scheduled liftoff date.
Skyroot’s wording is the primary account of the move, and independent confirmation of the stage’s arrival or its subsequent processing was not available in the material reviewed for this report. Its post says the stage is on its way to Sriharikota, which reports a transfer rather than an arrival. That leaves several operational questions open: whether other stages are already at the range, when they may arrive, what integration work has started, and whether the company has a launch window. None should be inferred from the transport announcement alone.
A second campaign after the July debut
The reported transfer comes just over a month after Vikram-1’s first orbital flight. ISRO said Skyroot’s small-satellite launcher lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 12:05:30 p.m. India Standard Time on July 18, 2026. The agency said the flight placed Skyroot’s SCOPE and Grahaa payloads into low Earth orbit, while remaining payloads on the upper stage were intended for in-orbit experiments. Its notice described Skyroot as an Indian space start-up and said the launch marked a milestone in the Indian Space Programme. ISRO and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre, known as IN-SPACe, described it as Skyroot’s successful maiden launch.
That July mission is useful context for the new movement, but it does not establish the configuration or objectives of the second vehicle. Skyroot’s current launch-services page describes Vikram-1 as an all-carbon-composite launcher with a restartable liquid upper stage and states a maximum payload capacity of 350 kilograms to low Earth orbit. The page also advertises rideshare and dedicated launch options. It does not connect a particular commercial slot, payload or launch window to the first stage announced on August 23.
ISRO’s account of the July flight also places Skyroot’s work within India’s changed launch-sector framework. The agency said the government announced space-sector reforms in 2020 to allow private industry to participate in the country’s space activities. In that account, Skyroot’s earlier Vikram-S suborbital launch from Sriharikota on November 18, 2022 is part of the company’s route to Vikram-1. Those earlier milestones explain why a follow-on vehicle is newsworthy; they do not verify its present launch readiness.
What the transfer does — and does not — show
Sriharikota is the same Indian spaceport from which the maiden Vikram-1 mission flew, according to ISRO’s July account. Sending another first stage there therefore gives the follow-up effort a defined location and a visible logistics milestone. It does not, however, show a fully integrated launch vehicle. The available announcement contains no information about the upper stage, the remaining stages, fairing, payload adapters, range scheduling or the test and review sequence that would precede a launch.
The new campaign is also separate from the proof of flight already supplied by the completed July 18 mission. ISRO’s report records what happened on that first launch; Skyroot’s August post reports a stage movement for another vehicle. Treating the latter as an announced launch date would collapse two different facts. For now, the strongest supported description is that Skyroot has started moving hardware for a second Vikram-1 campaign at Sriharikota.
The next material update would be evidence that the stage has arrived and is entering launch-site work, followed by company or range information identifying an integrated vehicle, a mission manifest or a launch opportunity. Until then, the date, payload complement and flight-readiness status of Skyroot’s second Vikram-1 remain unannounced.
