Pixxel targets 2028 start for national Earth-observation launches

Pixxel plans to begin launching satellites for India's national Earth-observation constellation in early 2028, put at least four into orbit that year, and deploy all 12 by 2030. Co-founder and chief executive Awais Ahmed gave the timetable in a September 24 interview with The Hindu BusinessLine. These are company targets; the interview named no launch provider or booked missions.

The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) marked in a November 2025 industry presentation had marked January 2029 for completion of the constellation, with the first set of satellites ready in November 2027. The new 2030 full-deployment target is later than that agency chart, but Ahmed's interview did not explain the change. Pixxel's January 2026 agreement announcement described a five-year, 12-satellite programme without a launch-by-launch sequence.

Ahmed also told the publication that Pixxel would execute around 60–70% of the programme, estimating its share of spending at roughly ₹700–750 crore over the next three and a half years. The Pixxel-led consortium is to design, finance and operate the system. Its planned satellites combine optical, multispectral, synthetic-aperture radar and hyperspectral imaging, according to the January announcement.

The first projected launches in early 2028 are the next dated test of the revised plan. Neither the interview nor the original agreement establishes that the national constellation is operating now.
